It was an astonishing when the fabulous Room 14 we're learning about Turangawaewae, Art, Culture and many other cultural activities. When Room 14 was first introduced to Turangawaewae we were all very confused on what this long Maori world could possibly mean. We did research for a while interested in our new topic. A phew of us had many different meanings using many different websites to discover what this long word means. When we discovered that it is clearly a Maori word and that we can use google translator from Maori to English. The meaning A place to stand.
For the beginning of Turangawaewae we started off by creating a slide and choosing 4 destinations in New Zealand that we're going to "visit." We had to have a budget plan plane flights, Car Rental, Food and even Hotels, Motels or Holiday Homes. All of the activities that we're going to "do" on our "holiday." There were many different price ranges that different people had as their budget, some people had a small budget some people had big price differences. We spent a couple of weeks on creating a finished, edited and punctuated slide.When they were all shown presented and finished they got printed out and now are on Room 14's wall.
A while later Sheppard house teachers planned to go on a Sheppard house trip to the MTG and the Hasting art exhibition.
When we arrived at the MTG (Museum Theater Art Gallery) we were introduced by a kind lady who worked at the MTG who gave us a quick run through where to go what to do and what not to do and where everything is. We were separated into small groups of 4 5 or more. The parent helpers were all handed a map that shows all the areas e.t.c of the MTG. There were many different artefacts and masterpieces to look at but we were mostly looking for the famous New Zealanders art room. When we finally found it after a while with the complicated map we succeeded our mission to look at many famous New Zealanders art pieces. Everyone was very interested in Dick Frizzell's artwork and many others. I personally was looking for Anna Chan she may sound Chinese but was legally born in New Zealand. We observed the art very closely so we could see what type of pen's, pencils, felts or pastels they used to create their masterpiece. Some of them were so perfect it was had to tell that someone even drew them. We loved our time we got to spend at the amazing MTG and hope to have another visit rather soon.
Later on, in the week we travelled to the Hastings Art Exhibition to observe more creative art pieces. There were many different categories of art such as Animals, Ocean, Land, Farms, Humans and much much more. In our notebook or in our everything book we wrote what we liked about the art the number of the art and why it caught our eye. Many of us liked the Animal art, The Ocean art and the Beach art. The way they were designed and the layout of them was absolutely outstanding and unbelievable. We enjoyed our time at the Art Exhibition and hope to visit again soon.
